TUESDAY | The President hosts Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto at the White House. The two leaders plan to discuss U.S.-Mexico cooperation on economic and security issues. The 114th Congress convenes in which Republicans have a larger House majority and Senate control for the first time since 2007. House meets at noon with a quorum call. Senate meets at noon and will proceed to the presentation of the certificates of election, the swearing-in of elected members and the required live quorum. The House holds elections on who will be speaker; John Boehner is expected to remain in post. Senate Republicans are set to formally elect their committee chairmen. New Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says his chamber will vote first on approving the Keystone XL pipeline project, long a priority of Republicans, who say it will create jobs. The Senate also will consider confirming U.S. attorney general nominee Loretta Lynch and defense secretary nominee Ashton Carter.
