China steps up stimulus after murky GDP.

China’s central bank vowed to offer more easing and support after GDP clocked in with figures that were good, but not great. Asia’s biggest economy grew slightly faster than anticipated in the July-September quarter, but that wasn’t enough to keep the country on track to reach its annual target, even with better-than-projected retail sales and industrial output. Still, the PBOC’s actions, on top of already announced stimulus measures, helped assuage concerns and lifted global stocks.

Most Fed officials not fazed by inflation report.

Fed path | The much-awaited and hotter-than-expected US CPI report yesterday left three Federal Reserve officials unfazed, suggesting they see a path for the central bank to keep cutting interest rates. Raphael Bostic, however, was the outlier and said he was “totally comfortable with skipping a meeting” and pausing easing should the data point to that being appropriate. The Fed’s Austan Goolsbee, Lorie Logan, and Michelle Bowman are due to speak today.

US stock futures mixed as traders await jobs data crucial for Fed’s rate outlook.

Paring back | European stocks and US futures fluctuated ahead of key American jobs data that will help determine the path for interest rates. An oil price rally extended after spiraling tensions in the Middle East led to the biggest one-day jump in almost a year. Treasuries were flat after selling off on Thursday, and an index of dollar strength was set for the biggest weekly gain in nearly six months as traders pared back expectations for aggressive US rate cuts.
